Discountasp.net being DOS attacked

If you’re wondering why WhyYouShould is responding very slowly (if at all) tonight, it looks like my hosting provider DiscountASP is experiencing a denial-of-service attack. They’re working on it and hopefully WYS will be back soon :)

From Discountasp.net:

Dear Customer,

We experienced a network-wide outage Thursday morning and late evening as the result of a distributed denial of service attack. You can read details related to the outage here: http://community.discountasp.net/default.aspx?f=6&m=18216&p=1

Hi, I also use DiscountASP for some websites. I created a feed of their Emergency Status Page so I can be aware of the changes. Here is the link…

I hope the attack ends soon.

Same here. I’ve been completely locked out of my site and related functionalities (including email) for two days. Generally, DiscountASP.NET is really good, but I guess anyone can be targetted by DDoS’s. I hope the source is identified soon…

BTW, they have a status page – outside the area that’s being attacked and flooded — at http://daspstatus.com/.

    Nice, jesús!

    Thanks for the link Thogek!

Full Disclosure: I do work for DiscountASP.NET. We were under a massive DDOS attack off and on for 2 days. Everything is now operating normally. We did post in our community forum (http://community.discountasp.net) about what happened.

Thanks for the post, Eric. Congrats on fending off the l33t h4×0rs :)

Looks like DiscountASP.NET is proactively trying to reduce the chances of being taken out by something like that again: http://www.hostreview.com/news/news/070724DiscountASPNet.html

    Nice to see the responsiveness…

That’s awesome, Thogek. Further cements my opinion that they are a great hosting company

    It’s down right now:

2:20 PM (PT) February 6, 2008: Network Outage
We are currently experiencing a network outage related to our backbone provider (Savvis). We do not have an ETA for the return of service, but we anticipate a quick resolution.

2:30 PM (PT) February 6, 2008: Network Outage
Apparently the outage is not affecting everyone on the Savvis network, but their technicians are working to resolve the issue and expect to have it taken care of soon.

Full Disclosure: I do work for DiscountASP.NET. We experienced a network outage on Feb 6, 2008 for about 2 hours. This was caused by network configuration changes that our upstream provider, Savvis, made in error. We did post in our community forum (http://community.discountasp.net) about what happened. We also updated our outside daspstatus.com site with status reports during the outage.
