I’ve been trying not to get my hopes up for a return of Babylon 5 since a few attempts at bringing it back (a video game, a spin-off series, and a feature movie) have fizzled out, but it looks like it’s happening! Here’s the trailer for the new anthology show.
I always found B5 was under-rated as a scifi series. Before my next statement, let me first state that I love the Star Trek franchise and have seen every episode dozens (and dozens) of times. I also love “Battlestar Galactica” (the new version), Star Wars…pretty much any scifi series that involves a spaceship. Now, I’m going to put this out there: Babylon 5 is the best scifi series I have ever watched. Its plot was epic, in that it relied on a pre-planned story arc that lasted for 5 years. That allowed them to put story threads, easter-eggs, and character development into the very first season to support the very last season. ‘Lost’ wishes they could do something like that! B5 has season arcs (i.e. a civil war, a galactic war, the rise and fall of main characters) that are all part of an even bigger story. Episodes never end like TNG where after an hour, magically everything’s going to be alllllright
And there are a lot of awesome space battles
Chances are, if you haven’t watched B5 yet, you’re probably not going to run out and see it based on this blog entry. But seriously, if you’re getting bored waiting for the next season of Battlestar Galactica, download a few B5 episodes (I recommend season 4) and check it out. And I’ll be waiting for you, beyond The Rim…
