LameCode

I swear this blogger is my evil twin, except when it comes to my strikingly good looks. That’s what my magic mirror says anyhow. And by mirror, I mean hand. Either way, he’s blasting Ajax today, but I’m still feeling the love. "Ohhh yeah. That’s the spot, Ajax. Do that thing I like. No, the other thing." :D (Thanks Jay!)

Yahoo! Mail’s new look

Monday, July 11th, 2005

An article over at the Ajaxian Blog got me thinking, Yahoo! really has a slick Mail interface lately.  It’s clean (assuming you’re running AdBlock ;-) ), simple and it makes GMail look old by comparison.  I know Google likes to stick to their simple layout and design, but a little style never heard anyone :)

Flickr Bikinis are finally working hard…hehe

Ok, we went through some rough times there but finally I’m getting some hot (consenting) chicks on my Flickr Bikini feed.  I love the inter-ma-web :)

New drug blocks HIV from entering cells

Saturday, July 9th, 2005

I know there’s a lot of buzz about these types of cures, but if it’s true (and it seems confirmed by a few other sources), then this looks like a great new drug for fighting HIV/AIDS. Way to go scientist-type-dudes-or-dudettes! :D

asahi.com – New drug blocks HIV from entering cells

A durable new drug that prevents HIV from entering human cells and causes almost no side effects has been developed by a team of researchers at Kumamoto University.

Siamese Fighting Fish Do Breath!

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005

About 10 people have told me so far that I’m crazy to think that my fighting fish is breathing at the top of the tank. Since he always does it when they’re not looking, I had to google it. Here’s what I found:

Siamese Fighting Fish (Betta Splendens)

Even though Bettas do well in waters low in dissolved oxygen, that does not mean they require less oxygen than other fish. Bettas have a special respiratory organ that allows them to breath air directly from the surface. In fact they inherently must do so. In experiments where the labyrinth organ was removed, the fish died from suffocation even though the water was saturated with oxygen. For this reason, Bettas must have access to the water surface to breath air directly from the atmosphere.

Tech TV Back From the Dead

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005

I have to admit, when Kevin Rose started talking about bringing back the "old" Tech TV after Comcast completely destroyed it, I didn’t think it was possible.  After all, studios cost money, crews cost money, and they had no sponsors and no ad programs.  Well, bit-by-bit the new "Tech TV" is taking shape.

Kevin Rose has his Systm show, Yoshi has From The Shadows, and Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, and the rest are all contributing to This Week in Tech.  Kevin Rose is even moving back to San Francisco where "We hope to have our new studio built out by mid-August allowing us to hit our full production stride and cranking out episodes on an almost weekly basis."

To succeed, the new "Tech TV" will have to find an economic model that works, unlike any traditional TV station.  It should be interesting to see how it goes ;-)   Good luck guys!

UPDATE: Kevin Rose’s new studio is called Revision3.  Here’s the Wikipedia entry.
