Jessica Stroup discovers a new algorithm for network efficiency

There’s nothing I like more than efficient network routing. NOTHING! So that’s why I was delighted that some computer scientists at University of California have developed one. You know what that means? Packet latency will lower! Yes! w00t! W00T! THIS IS AMAZING!

Anyhow, when you think network efficiency, you can’t help but think Jessica Stroup from the new ‘90210′ series. I know what you’re thinking, “Keebler, isn’t that the actress that kissed Heather Graham in Broken (2007)?” Yes

A time-and-money-saving question shared by commuters in their cars and networks sharing ever-changing Internet resources is: “What’s the best way to get from here to there?”

A new algorithm developed by computer scientists at the University of California, San Diego helps answer that question, at least for computer networks, and it promises to significantly boost the efficiency of network routing.

Called XL, for approximate link state, the algorithm increases network routing efficiency by suppressing updates from parts of the system – updates which force connected networks to continuously re-calculate the paths they use in the great matrix of the Internet.

Anyhow, after some soul searching, I’ve decided to raise the level of discourse around here. So behold: it looks like they have discovered a new prime number. Umm….yeah!? I wasn’t aware that we needed another one, especially one with over 10 million digits. We should ask ourselves, do we want to live in a world with such large prime numbers? I think we should get Kelli Garner’s perspective on things, who surprisingly, is not the sister of Jennifer Garner but is also an actress. Yes, very interesting…

The Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS) has apparently discovered a new world-record prime number. A GIMPS client computer reported the number on August 23rd, and verification is currently under way. The verification could take up to two weeks to complete. The last Mersenne prime discovered was over 9.8 million digits long, strongly suggesting that the new value may break the 10 million digit barrier — qualifying for the EFF’s $100000 prize!

There are two things in this world I enjoy more than anything. Rachel Bilson and Subway turkey subs. Seriously, give me an O.C. DVD boxed-set and a stack of fresh Subway bread, and I’m good to go. Is anyone else counting down the days until the new 90210 kicks off? For those of us who are too ~~dumb~~ old to go back to school, we can only hope to live vicariously through the formulaic plot lines of the teen-high-school dramaturgy. I also can’t wait to see Shenae Grimes (or Grimes-zie as we used to call her around work) move from one highschool to West Beverly…and scare them…a lot. Seriously. Run.
